No its not. The police force is crooked and alot of people like to steal what you have so if you do not go with somebody who knows more about the contry or on a tour with others I would not go alone.

Political - yes, your safety - no. It’s not safe for a woman to travel alone in Mexico. I would definitely take someone with me.

I would not recommend a woman travel alone in Mexico or any large city in the US. There is by far more physical crime against innocent bystanders in the US than in Mexico. Mexico does have more petty crime.

YES, it is safe…. and yes, it’s safe for a woman alone although there are definitely regions from which you should steer very clear. Just know where you’re going, make a reservation at a nice place ahead of time, dress appropriately and remember that you’re not in the US anymore. A bit of Spanish will go a long way. Where are you thinking of going/what are you thinking of doing? Beach, city, yoga vacation?
PS, I have lived in US cities for the past 20 yrs. Going solo as a woman has everything to do with street smarts and confidence. Don’t let people scare you.

What city do you want to go to? Cancun is pretty different compared to Ciudad Juarez. Caution and common sense must be used anywhere. I’m talking everyday in most US cities as well.
Here is a link to the US State Dept. for intenational tips and travel warnings. I usually pull up archived copies of local newspapers as well.
Virtual Tourist website is helpful as well. I look for tips from locals of the city or people who have been frequently.
