good luck getting back to the U.S.
I don’t need to read it, but you need a passport. It’s a new law
that is effective this year
It is now required by law that you have a passport when travelling across the border to Mexico and Canada. A license will not cut it anymore due to new Homeland Security measures.
This is the part that applies to you: “U.S. and Canadian citizens will need to present either a WHTI-compliant document, or a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, plus proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate.”
The requirement for a passport for land travel between Mexico/US and Canada/US has been postponed; the date of implementation has not been announced.
If you are flying you will need a passport. If you are not flying you will need a current government issued picture ID, such as a passport and proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate. Beginning this summer you will need a passport.
Better have a passport. Go to your post office to apply. You may have to delay your trip until you get it. If you don’t have one, you may not be able to reenter the U.S. Talk to the person at the post office.
The one above is right, you need a passport to fly to Mexico however. I just traveled to Mexico by ship and I needed both my DL and a birth certificate. They say it will be sometime in 2008 to get everything in place.
I hope you learned Spanish before visiting.
