Can I travel in mexico with an american drivers license?
Vodka asked:
I don’t have a passport and I won’t be driving. Is it possible to travel inside of mexico with only a drivers license?

Uhn-uh…. don’t go into Mexico without a passport, and guard it closely. You can drive in Mexico with an American driver’s license, but you’d darn sure better have Mexican insurance on the car. I think you can get it fairly cheaply for just a couple of days, weeks or months.
Always have a passport on you. If you have insurance through AAA you can get insurance for Mexico as well (I think.)
Yes, but you will have a bit of a problem returning to the US.
all you need is your license and your birth certificate. i just came back from rosarito/tijuana last night and had no problems. if you really want to get insurance go to costco.com and go to the travel link i beleive its 7$ a day
Yes, you can travel within Mexico with the american drivers license but you’ll have a hard time returning home!! Get the passport, it’s so much less of a headache!
Looks like some have missed your point. You do NOT need a passport to travel to and from Mexico by LAND. You DO need your photo I.D. AND proof of U.S. citizenship…birth certificate if you do not have a passport. Yes, you may travel within Mexico with just your I.D. You CANNOT enter Mexico and re-enter the U.S. with only your drivers license. See site below for current info.
You don’t need a passport to travel in Mexico. A birth certificate and a photoid - like a drivers license - is all that is necessary. You will also need to get a Mexico Tourist Card which you must return upon leaving (don’t lose it!)
The driver needs to have a valid driver’s license and purchase Insurance for driving in MExico. This can be purchased at the last town before you cross into Mexico.
