Carry at least a government issued ID. Passports will not be required until next year. To be safe you can carry a birth certificate.

At the moment nothing. It might be wise to have your U.S. driver’s license or voter’s card.

If your sure you do not need a passport then you may get in just showing your birth certificate (state) & drivers license….maybe….maybe not…I went to Mexico last year but I went way down near Cancun….was able to use the items mentioned above….but now a passport is required to go back…so who really knows for sure….

You may want to check here, I do think you need a passport to reenter.

a passport will be required in january 2008 to cross the u.s.-mexican border on land. not required to go, but required to return. legal u.s. i.d. should suffice until then.
a passport is needed now to fly in.
