What do I need to have to travel to Mexico?

travel new mexico
shuutastic asked:

I’m in California and am planning to travel to the Mexico City area in early January.

I am not a U.S. Citizen, but I am a Permanent Resident (green card) and am going to get a passport in the coming weeks.

Aside from those however, do I need any other documents?

Thanks.

As a permanent resident, you must have your passport from your HOME country and your green card to travel outside the U.S. Those are the only documents you will need. See site below and read paragraph on International Travel. Later, if you become an American citizen, you will be able to get an American passport and use that when you travel. U.S. green card holders do not need a visa to enter Mexico. You will get a tourist card on the airplane. You can use the 2nd site to verify this info. Enter your nationality, enter that you are an alien resident of the U.S.A., enter your destination and click for the info.

You will need your US passport to get back FROM Mexico.
To get TO mexico you will need either a Mexican Visa or a birth certificate from mexico.
